Pachypodium namaquanum

The Nama people of South Africa called Pachypodium namaquanum “halfmens”, meaning half a man. Legend has it that they were exiled by warring tribes and turned into the plants that dot the Namaqualand hillsides. As halfmens, they lean towards the north, looking back with sadness to their homeland.  In habitat the plants remain mostly leafless for most of the year but in cultivation it has an unusual cycle, with two active periods and two dormancies. It’s recommended to water when in leaf and keep completely dry when dormant. You may receive a plant similar to the one pictured.
