Echinocactus horizonthalonius should be a familiar sight to seasoned travelers of southwestern deserts throughout the United States and Mexico. These cacti range from compact globular plants covered with thick spines to spiraling columnar cacti up to about knee height. This particular specimen is the form from Mexico with a powdery blue epidermis, thick spines, and a rounder habit. Water infrequently through the warm season and keep almost completely dry through the winter.
