Stapelia gigantea

$66.00

Stapelia gigantea produces the largest flower of the entire Stapelia genus, hence the nickname "Zulu giant". It is native to the desert regions of South Africa to Tanzania.  The flowers of this plant bloom in the fall and emit the smell of rotting flesh in order to attract the flies which pollinate them. Because of this foul odor, S. gigantea can act as an appetite suppressant in humans. This specimen is quite old and will readily produce flowers, so hopefully you, too, can be lucky enough to smell one : )

Currently growing in a 5” terra-cotta pot.
