The Nursery at Public Records:

The Nursery at Public Records is about the experience of stepping into another world, that at the same time feels natural, like it’s always been there. We worked with Public Records and ARUP to create a sound-absorbing space with the use of low tech materials and 40’ tall specimen Vivax bamboo, a secret garden party that’s primordially sonically technical.

In the greenhouse, we worked with Mattaforma to tune the space for the plants, and with Public Records on the concrete workbench and potted specimens. Greenhouses are places where humans commune with plants and we wanted to maintain that special feeling - these places in particular have a transportive power. You are stepping into a plant’s home... and there is something humbling and interesting about that reversal. With PR’s programming and the incredible system by OJAS and NNNN, we love the mix of plants and sound. During sound checks and before people arrive, the audience is the plants.
